Forget spelling bees ? try vocabulary competitions.

That?s exactly what eighth-grader Charles Crouse did: The Baltimore Lutheran School student won the Maryland State Championship in the Reader?s Digest National Word Power Challenge. He will go to Florida in May to represent Maryland and compete on a national level. The contest challenges students? understanding of word definitions. The winner of the national competition will receive $50,000 in college scholarships.
