Donald Trump blasted opponent Ted Cruz as a “desperate candidate trying to save his failing campaign” on Tuesday, just hours before polls are set to close in Indiana’s Republican primary.
The Republican presidential front-runner’s latest jab was in response to a press conference Cruz held earlier Tuesday, during which he described Trump as a “pathological liar,” “serial philanderer” and “narcissist.”
“This man is a pathological liar. He doesn’t know the difference between truth and lies,” Cruz told reporters. “He lies — practically every word that comes out of his mouth.”
“Ted Cruz is a desperate candidate trying to save his failing campaign. It is no surprise he has resorted to his usual tactics of over-the-top rhetoric that nobody believes,” Trump said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon by his campaign.

“Over the last week, I have watched Lyin’ Ted become more and more unhinged as he is unable to react under the pressure and stress of losing, in all cases by landslides, the last six primary elections,” he added.
Trump continued, “Today’s ridiculous outburst only proves what I have been saying for a long time, that Ted Cruz does not have the temperament to be President of the United States.”
Trump and Cruz both have a lot riding on the outcome of the Hoosier State’s primary.
Having collected just under 1,000 delegates already, a big win for Trump could put him within 200 delegates of securing the GOP nomination.
Meanwhile, a win for Cruz would not only save the Texas senator the embarrassment of losing seven states in a row, but allow him to continue to make the argument that he still has a path to victory at the convention.
