Saga continues back at Lambeau

Another week, another nationally televised game for the Vikings and quarterback Brett Favre. Only this time he’s headed back to Lambeau Field for a game against the Packers on Sunday night. This could get ugly. It was bad enough last season when Green Bay fans vented their anger about Favre’s on-again, off-again retirement sagas and his signing with rival Minnesota. Now we have the specter of this week’s NFL investigation into Favre’s alleged lewd text messages to then-Jets employee Jenn Sterger two years ago.

“It’s a soap opera and a football game will break out,” NBC football broadcaster Al Michaels said.

It’s also a huge game. The Vikings prevented catastrophe with their “Panic Bowl” victory over Dallas. But unless they find a way to win in Lambeau, they’ll be 2-4 with a steep climb back into the playoff chase. It doesn’t help that Minnesota has a road game at New England the following week. In the midst of all this, maybe it’s good to have Favre under center. He’s used to the circus, after all.

“What is it about Brett Favre? No matter how big the mess, no matter how many distractions there may be, he steps up and plays some of his best football,” NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth said. “We all know he’s going to be in the headlines this week. There is no way around that.”
