Lots of changes in Redskins Radio

The Examiner/Sunday

Let’s go over all the changes that you need to know to listen to every Redskins game and the programming that surrounds the broadcasts.

Where can I hear the games?

In the local D.C. metro area the games will air on a record six radio stations and the website. ESPN-980AM, WTNT-570AM, WWRC-1260AM, WXTR 730 AM, WWXT 92.7 FM, and WWXX 94.3 FM. Plus throughout the mid-Atlantic on the Redskins network.

Fans can also hear the games free at www.espn980.com as the Redskins are the only NFL team offering the games free of charge on the web. If you are a Sirius radio fan then you can get the games check the website or the Examiner for channel numbers.

What about the pre-game and post-game shows?

Starting Sunday all six stations will air the pre-game show two hours ahead of kick-off and once the season begins the show will expand to its usual three hours. All pre-game and post games will be done from FedEx Field when the team is at home. When on the road the shows will be done from the studio.

Kevin Sheehan will host the pre-game show. The post game show will be hosted by Andy Pollin, and then Redskins Monday QB Show will be heard only on ESPN980AM.Once the season starts John Riggins will join Pollin on the post-game show and also on Monday Morning QB Show.

Any changes to the Redskins game day broadcasts?

Yes. Doc Walker will be added to the broadcast team as a sideline reporter.

Walker will join Sonny” Jurgensen, Sam Huff and Larry Michael on the broadcast team. Doc Walker will join the Redskins radio team as the sidelines reporter. It is a great move for the broadcast. Walker is a top notch analyst and he does ACC college games for Jefferson-Pilot and also has done a number of NFL games for Westwood One. So the addition of Doc is a great move and will add another quality voice to an already solid broadcast team.

Red Zebra Broadcasting and ESPN 980AM VP of Operations Dennis Glasgow talked about the pre-game and post game shows.

Glasgow: “The pre-game show will be hosted by Kevin Sheehan and Redskins beat reporter Frank Hanrahan will be the mainstays. But the entire ESPN 980 air staff will be part of the pre-game show. Brian Mitchell, Steve Czaban, Doc Walker, Al Koken, John Thompson and a cast of thousands. One feature that we are excited about is Sonny doing pre game chat with Coach Jim Zorn. Then the post game show will have Andy Pollin as the host and his partner starting the after the first game of the season will be John Riggins. Our Monday Morning QB Show starting the first Monday after opening day Kevin Sheehan and Andy Pollin will co anchor the show and Riggo will join them for analysis. The show will air Monday’s from 6am-10am. (Tuesday’s when the Redskins have a Monday Night Football game.”

So Redskins fans should be pleased they will still have their favorite hosts part of both the pre-game and post-game shows. They also have Doc Walker now as part of the Redskins broadcast team which is a big plus. Fans have six radio stations and a website to hear all the games.

Redskins Nation now has a solid radio station and all the hosts that they like hearing. Let the season begin.
