Matus: Hollywood and the GOP

Before we get carried away with exactly how much money Hollywoood has given to the Democratic presidential candidates, it also should be noted that H-wood gives to Republican contenders as well. Actors Kelsey Grammer and Adam Sandler have donated to the Giuliani campaign and Robert Duvall has openly endorsed the mayor (“I don’t normally get involved in politics, but I think the stakes are too high this election.”). But how much money are we talking? While Obama edged out Clinton in the third quarter with $580,000, GOP candidate and former senator Fred Thompson leads among Republicans during that same quarter with a whopping $43,275. In second place is Rudy with $39,436, followed by Mitt Romney ($32,956). Arizona senator John McCain, however, has received the most money from Hollywood for the entire year, with a grand total of $390,016. Who says Hollywood hates conservatives?
