Fighting off other shoppers and waking up at the crack of dawn to nab the big sale items is becomming more a thing of the past. According to Reston-based comScore, online shopping for the first 26 days of November is up 13 percent from last year as shoppers show they aren’t waiting for Cyber Monday to click and save.
A total of $11.64 billion has been spent online and Black Friday’s sales — the traditional brick and mortar stores’ kick-off to the holiday spending season — totaled $648 million, a 9 percent increase over Black Friday 2009.
Online sales on Friday were also the heaviest online spending day to date in 2010, comScore says.
“Online shopping is increasingly becoming the refuge of those preferring to avoid the crowds and long lines,” said comScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni.
Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving, typically has marked the kickoff to online holiday shopping as workers return to their desks after the long weekend. For more information on the November spending breakdown, click here.
