D.C. residents trying to call 911 on Saturday may not have reached anyone.
The emergency system went down around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, according to tweets from the Metropolitan Police Department. The system was restored about 15 minutes later, only to go down again in about five minutes.
As of 3:40 p.m., the system was up and running again.
Police spokesman Officer Araz Alali said police did not know why the system went down.
Residents were told to call 202-727-9099 in case of an emergency when 911 was down.
