Three men were killed early Thursday when after a sport utility vehicle traveling on the road side of the road collided with an ambulance on the 5600 block of Marlboro Pike in Forestville, according to Prince George’s County police and emergency services.

Police identified the dead men as Emmanuel Jones, 30, of District Heights; Andre Watley, 22, of the District; and Tony Burney, 35, of the District.

Two firefighter medics were transported to a hospital for evaluation.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight when the ambulance swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the SUV, which was traveling on the wrong side of the road. The SUV side-swiped the ambulance before hitting a brick wall and utility pole, authorities said.

The ambulance had been responding to an overdose call on Tanow Place. No patients were in the ambulance.

A police spokeswoman said Thursday afternoon that it still wasn’t clear why the SUV was on the wrong side of the road.
