HOUSTON (AP) — A fire that began with what witnesses described as an explosion swept through an apartment building in northwestern Houston.

A Houston Fire Department statement says one person was found in a search of the charred ruins of the Thursday afternoon fire at the West Vintage Apartments. No identity or cause of death has been released.

In all, 16 apartments were damaged by fire and heavy smoke by the two-alarm fire.

Arson investigators are still looking for the source of the explosion and fire since the complex does not have natural gas service.
