Washington drivers lose $7.4 billion a year because of traffic accidents, according to a new report from AAA Mid-Atlantic.
That’s nearly two times the cost of congestion to the area, which AAA estimates is $4 billion per year.
Those numbers boil down to $1,363 per person per year for traffic accidents and $913 for congestion.
Three hundred and fifty area residents died in car crashes and 42,566 were injured in 2009, according to AAA.
