McConnell super PAC on the offensive with attack ads in five states

Democratic Senate contenders were under fire in five states Tuesday as the super PAC affiliated with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., hit the airwaves with a spate of attack ads.

Senate Leadership Fund announced $5.7 million worth of television, radio, and digital advertising in Indiana, Missouri, and North Dakota, three states Republicans are hoping to flip in the midterm elections to pad their 51-49 majority; and Nevada and Tennessee, where Democrats hope to swipe GOP-held seats on their way to capturing the Senate.

The top Senate GOP super PAC’s new ads are part of the intensifying midterm air war as both parties battle for position ahead of the November elections. The Democrats, through Senate Majority PAC, are spending tens of millions of dollars to defend vulnerable incumbents and maximize their gains in the few Democratic targets that exist on the Republican-friendly Senate map.

Here’s a quick guide to the latest spending from Senate Leadership Fund:

  • Indiana: $1.4 million statewide buy on broadcast and cable television, plus radio and digital
  • Missouri: $1.8 million statewide buy on broadcast and cable television, plus radio and digital
  • North Dakota: $350,000 statewide buy on broadcast and cable television, plus radio and digital
  • Nevada: $1 million statewide buy on broadcast and cable television, plus radio and digital
  • Tennessee: $1.1 million statewide buy on broadcast and cable television, plus radio and digital
