LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) — Lake Placid Lacrosse is hosting the annual Summit Lacrosse Classic for the 25th time this summer.

More than 245 teams are expected to compete in 18 divisions of competition from Aug. 4-10.

This year, Lake Placid Lacrosse is supporting the Wounded Warrior Project in an effort to promote awareness of the group’s mission and to help raise funds.

A series of special events will be incorporated into the week-long tournament to benefit the project, which assists the more than 50,000 servicemen and women injured in recent military conflicts and also tries to help veterans suffering from combat-related stress and depression.

The Summit Tournament is one of the nation’s oldest and most highly attended events, with 20 college alumni programs taking part.
