Conservatism Passed Away

A cartoon about the economy was on the plate this morning until I saw William F. Buckley Jr. died. When I showed the sketch for this cartoon to my editor, one of the questions he asked was, “Why not do something that’s more of a tribute to him?” My answer was that it’s much more fitting to draw a critical cartoon rather than an encomium, and Buckley most likely would have preferred the latter as well — especially given the tenor of his columns during President Bush’s two terms.
