‘Duty of a free and fair press’: Chris Wallace hits back at Trump over Comey and Schiff interviews

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace suggested he would not back down from interviewing President Trump’s critics after the president attacked the network for bringing on former FBI Director James Comey and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff.

“President Trump tweeted late yesterday that we, Fox News Sunday, should not even be doing an interview with James Comey or with Adam Schiff,” Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said in a Sunday interview with Pam Bondi, who is part of the White House communications team focusing on impeachment.

“My question, Pam, is does the president understand that it’s the duty of a free and fair press to cover both sides of the story?” Wallace asked.

“Of course, he does,” Bondi said, later continuing, “Frankly, I’m going to disagree with the president right now, because I’m glad you had James Comey on because you caught him in multiple misrepresentations once again.”

Trump claimed on Saturday that the network was trying to be politically correct by booking the interviews.

Earlier this month in a speech honoring the First Amendment, Wallace said Trump “is engaged in the most direct, sustained assault on freedom of the press in our history.”
