Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, is reportedly expected to appear virtually before the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill this week.
The appearance is voluntary and could come Thursday, sources told ABC and CNN.
JAN. 6 COMMISSION WILL LIKELY SEEK INTERVIEW WITH GINNI THOMAS: REPORT
Kushner served as an adviser to Trump in the White House and may have been privy to behind-the-scenes discussions the former president and his allies had about challenging the results of the 2020 election.
The former Trump adviser was flying back to Washington from Saudi Arabia when the riot took place Jan. 6 and avoided returning to the White House after landing out of concerns that he would get into a “fight” with Trump, according to ABC.
His wife, Ivanka Trump, who also served as an adviser in the Trump administration, reportedly pleaded with Trump to do more to stop the riot. She has been in negotiations with the committee about a possible appearance.

The Washington Examiner reached out to a spokesperson for the committee for comment but did not receive a response.
The Jan. 6 committee is also reportedly eyeing an interview with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s wife, Ginni, after receiving text messages encouraging former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in efforts to overturn the election. She also recently said she attended a rally in Washington that preceded the riot. The committee is expected to make a decision about requesting an interview with her Monday night.
