Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio is a hot commodity: He’s an uncommitted superdelegate. In fact, he’s one of only a handful of undecided Democratic superdelegates left in the U.S. Senate.

But this campaign has been going on for well over a year, Sherrod: How can you still be undecided? He explained his confusion at a speech Wednesday at the School for Advanced International Studies.

“My wife is very publicly for Hillary, one of my daughters is very much for Hillary, my other two daughters are very much for Barack, my mother is for Barack, my brothers are for Barack and my chief of staff is for Hillary.” The crowd laughed at Brown’s divided gang of friends and family. “That’s not the reason for my indecision, but I’m just saying that I’m hearing plenty.”

Of course, if you’re an undecided superdelegate, you are on the receiving end of a lot of attention from a lot of important people. Brown recalled one such episode, when former President Bill Clinton called Brown’s home late at night.

“I picked up the phone and a young man’s voice on the other end told me that ‘President Bill Clinton would like to speak with you,’ ” said Brown. “I instantly sat up in bed, causing my wife to remind me: ‘Honey, it’s a phone call. He won’t know if you’re upright or not.’ She was right, but I just feel like, when the president calls, you ought to be formal about things.”
