End of regulation: Redskins 30, Saints 30
1st Qtr | 2nd Qtr | 3rd Qtr | 4th Qtr
» Not sure I like the play-calling inside the 10 on the first drive. The Redskins did the same thing in Philly and settling for three hurt them in the end.
» This is the first time Washington has scored 30 points in the Jim Zorn era.
» The Redskins took LaRon Landry out of the game for a couple snaps on New Orleans first drive of the fourth quarter, replacing him with Kareem Moore.
» Also, Chris Wilson is playing on this drive. I do not remember him playing earlier. If he did, it wasn’t that much; not as much as he had played in the past few games.
» The Redskins are getting minor contributions from players such as Byron Westbrook, Kevin Barnes and even Rob Jackson. Yep, Jackson helped make a backside tackle with Smoot.
» Drew Bress’ 29-yard pass to Robert Meacham was a nice toss; he purposefully threw it so that Meachem would have to come back to the ball. It allowed him to gain separation from Fred Smoot.
» Cool moment during the Saints’ first time out: soldiers were shown on the big screen with a big Redskins banner. They sang Hail to the Redskins and the crowd joined them. They finally seem ready to believe that the Redskins can actually win this game.
» Westbrook has been in the right position, it seems, all day. Has allowed him to make some plays.
» Devin Thomas is having a huge day. And having fun, too. Before the Redskins last kickoff (preceding the Saints field goal drive, as the music blared, Thomas was dancing.
» New Orleans has missed a lot of tackles today. Or, rather, the Redskins have broken a lot. Depends how you want to look at it, but the result is the same. Bad for New Orleans, good for the Redskins.
» New Orleans is missing key defensive starters, but they’ve been missing players for a while and had been winning. The inability to cause turnovers was crucial. This isn’t a very good defense when it has to line up and just stop teams. They stop teams when they force turnovers.
» Wow. Shaun Suisham just blew the 23-yard kick. Again, some teams just find ways to screw up. Washington has completely outplayed New Orleans and yet still has to come up with a defensive stand to win.
» Incidentally, the guy who runs onto the field waving the big Redskins flag was on his way when Suisham missed his kick. Guess he figured it was a gimme as well.
» The Redskins have used a lot of cover 2 to stop this offense. It’s worked. So far.
» And then it hasn’t. That’s twice today Landry has come up too hard on a receiver, falling, it seems for a minor pump fake.
» Um, that point about the turnovers? Not relevant anymore.
» Just shocking. Been covering this team for a while and don’t think I’ve seen a change of fortunes like that in a game. A missed 23-yarder? Goodness sakes.
» The way the Redskins luck has gone in this game, I’m surprised Fred Smoot didn’t fumble and have it returned for a touchdown after the missed field goal.
