Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had little to say about President Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, other than to pledge a “full, fair, and timely confirmation process,” to replace him.

His statement could be read as a prod to the White House to send a nomination quickly.

“Once the Senate receives a nomination,” McConnell promised swift action to “fill the director position.”

“This is a critical role that is especially important as America faces serious threats at home and abroad,” McConnell said.
