Crooner Pat Boone is a frequent visitor to these parts, so we weren’t surprised to see him at Wednesday’s Cost of Government Day news conference at the National Press Club.
But we were surprised to hear him speak so bluntly about his age.

Sporting his standard orange tan, flashy purple shirt and rainbow tie, the 74-year-old joked, “I have three stars in the Walk of Fame. But they were already there before they instituted the Walk of Fame.”
Then Boone addressed the topic at hand: Americans for Tax Reform’s critique of the rising cost of the U.S. government and taxes generally.
“Death should not be a taxable event,” Boone said, referring to the estate tax. “The closer I get to it, the less I like it.”
