President Trump suggested that Democratic candidates are pulling punches against Michael Bloomberg because they don’t want to put future donations at risk.
Bloomberg, 77, has been climbing in the polls after flooding the airwaves with millions of dollars in campaign advertisements. He has managed to mostly avoid being targeted by his fellow contenders while Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren take turns bashing each other — despite placing fourth in a recent nationwide poll.
In a pair of tweets, Trump claimed that the only reason Democrats were not focusing their attacks on Bloomberg was that they don’t want to close the door on future donations if the former New York City mayor is not the eventual nominee.
Trump tweeted Thursday, “Mini Mike Bloomberg is playing poker with his foolhardy and unsuspecting Democrat rivals. He says that if he loses (he really means when!) in the primaries, he will spend money helping whoever the Democrat nominee is. By doing this, he figures, they won’t hit him as hard during his hopeless ‘presidential’ campaign. They will remain silent!”
He added, “The fact is, when Mini losses, he will be spending very little of his money on these ‘clowns’ because he will consider himself to be the biggest clown of them all — and he will be right!”

Bloomberg has vowed to keep his campaign staff of more than 1,000 people on his payroll no matter who the candidate is as part of his effort to defeat Trump. The former mayor has already spent more than $200 million on advertisements since his late entry into the race, including a television advertisement that ran Thursday morning on Fox & Friends.
