Democrats slam Republicans after healthcare vote

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., slammed Republicans Thursday for passing a bill to repeal and replace portions of Obamacare.

“When you know the facts and care about people you can’t possibly vote for the bill they voted for today,” she said, speaking at a press conference with House Democrats after the vote on the bill, the American Health Care Act.

Pelosi accused President Trump of appearing not to understand what he was talking about when presenting information about the bill.

“Some of his statements about the ACA it’s like, ‘What are you even talking about?'” she said, referring to the Affordable Care Act. “We grant people their position but at least know what you’re talking about so we can respect the debate back and forth.”

She slammed the White House for celebrating the passage of the bill, which she said resulted in a transfer of wealth from working class to high-income Americans.

“They are in the Rose Garden having a beer party,” she said.

Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland accused Republicans of undermining the confidence of the Obamacare exchanges. Various insurers have said recently they either are pulling out of the exchanges next year or are considering it, a result they have said is partially rooted in uncertainty ahead.

“They’re going down to celebrate something that comes way short of what the president said he was going to deliver,” he said.

Democrats vowed to keep fighting Republican repeal efforts. Pelosi warned that Republicans would be hurt politically even if the final legislation is significantly changed in the Senate

“They have put their names next to worst provisions in this bill,” she said.
