State Department: Rex Tillerson’s IQ is ‘high’

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Tuesday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s IQ is “high,” but said she didn’t know how high.

“It’s high,” she said when asked.

“Anybody who can put things together, you know, as an engineer,” she added. “It’s high.”

The question came up at the State Department after President Trump seemed to indicate he would beat Tillerson in an IQ contest. The White House said Tuesday afternoon that Trump was joking in his interview with Forbes, and accused reporters of not being able to detect humor.

But tensions between Trump and Tillerson appear to be running high, in part because Trump is expected this week to proclaim that Iran is not in compliance with the Iran nuclear agreement, despite the apparent opposition to this course of action from both Tillerson and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
