Sanders: ‘Unacceptable’ that Clinton allows fracking

Bernie Sanders is calling for a nationwide ban on fracking, and warned in an op-ed that Hillary Clinton supports the practice that environmentalists say threatens human and environmental health.

On the campaign trail, the Vermont senator has said fracking is a danger to the environment that only benefits a few fossil fuel companies, but not the majority of the population. Unlike Sanders, his opponent Hillary Clinton does not want to ban the practice.

“Unfortunately, Secretary Hillary Clinton disagrees. Even worse, as secretary of state, she worked to export fracking throughout the world to reward companies such as Chevron, Halliburton, ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips. That, in my view, is unacceptable,” Sanders wrote in USA Today.

Sanders’ message could appeal to New Yorkers as they head to the polls to vote in the statewide primary. Both New York and the state Sanders represents in the Senate, Vermont, have banned fracking.

As New York Democrats head to the polls today, Clinton leads Sanders 53-41, according to RealClearPolitics averages.
