Quick arrest in Sunday P.G. homicide

A 60-year-old Landover man was arrested and charged with fatally stabbing his housemate early Sunday morning, according to Prince George’s County police.

Police say Jonathan Kelly got into a fight with the victim, 46-year-old David Smith, during which Kelly stabbed him. Kelly and Smith both lived at the house on the 7600 block of Oxman Road in Landover, where police found Smith dead at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday morning.

Kelly has been charged with second-degree murder.

Three injured in D.C.

apartment fire

Several residents of a Southeast D.C. apartment building were injured in a fire Sunday morning, fire officials said.

D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded at about 6:40 a.m. to a fire at a three-story apartment building on the 3800 block of Halley Terrace SE. Firefighters found heavy smoke billowing from the building from a first-floor fire.

Firefighters rescued several people trapped inside, according to fire spokesman Pete Piringer. A 27-year-old female, 30-year-old male and a child were all transported to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation, officials said.

The accidental fire was likely caused by a window air conditioning unit in a first-floor bedroom, according to officials.

Four shot overnight

in Prince George’s

Four people were shot in Glenarden early Sunday morning, and Prince George’s County police are searching for a culprit and motive in the incident.

Police responding to reports of shots fired at about 1 a.m., found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound on the 3600 block of Jeff Road. About 10 minutes later, police discovered a second victim nearby.

While investigating at the scene, police learned that a third and fourth victim, who were also involved in the shooting, had already been transported to a local hospital.

All victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
