Va. Sen. Tim Kaine struck a deal with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during a private meeting Tuesday. He agreed to help her repeal the Hyde Amendment, which restricts federal funds from going toward abortions, according to reports.
Kaine, the newly named running mate to Clinton, is personally opposed to abortion due to religious beliefs, but has a 100 percent pro-choice voting record in the Senate.
The only exception to that support has been the Hyde Amendment. Kaine has refused to support allotting federal funds for the procedure, until now.
Earlier this month, Kaine went on the record saying he supported the Hyde Amendment, just before Clinton picked him as her running mate.
The Democratic Party Platform had stated the party’s intentions to fight Republicans — or in this case, Kaine — who would seek to divert funding from abortion or similar procedures.
