Caps 2, Flyers 2
Who didn’t see that coming. Flyers went up 2-0 on goals by Scott Hartnell and Braydon Coburn – both on the power play. Caps answered with goals by Alex Ovechkin and Nick Backstrom – the latter also a power-play tally. Those last three goals all came within a 3 minute, 43 second stretch. Plenty of physical play. Caps may have gotten too caught up in Philly’s game. Thought for a minute Backstrom was going to start playing bongos on Mike Richard’s dome during a scrum in front of the Philadelphia goal.
Not a great second period for special teams. Yes, Backstrom had a PP goal. But the Caps also allowed two and couldn’t score during 1:41 of a 5-on-3. To be fair, they generated a ton of good chances on that one, but still…Each team took three penalties in the second. If that happends to either one in the third that team is going to bed without any standings points.
