Maurice Eric Proctor, 43, of Accokeek, died after his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer around 1:30 a.m. Friday at the 15900 block of Indian Head Highway in Prince George’s County.
The accident involved at least three cars. Investigators found that Proctor was traveling in a Ford Crown Victoria southbound on Indian Head Highway approaching Livingston Road and may have been racing a large, older sedan. Proctor’s car struck a Honda Civic, also travelling southbound, and the Civic veered off the roadway. Procter’s Crown Victoria then crossed over the median into oncoming traffic and smashed into a tractor-trailer. The Crown Victoria caught on fire with Proctor caught inside; when emergency workers arrived, he was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Civic sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators said they are looking for witnesses or anyone who knows more about the sedan that may have been racing Proctor’s car.
