COVINGTON, La. (AP) — The Covington-based PJ’s Coffee chain has announced plans for expansion beyond traditional coffee shop venues and New Orleans area locations.

The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/11IN2o4 ) the company plans to open 18 new stores in 2013, eight of which already are already in operation.

PJ’s opened six new locations in 2012 and currently operates 64 locations in total.

The 35-year-old company is focusing on what it calls “non-traditional growth,” placing coffee shops in casinos, university campuses, hotels, military bases, airports, hotels and grocery stores. And it has launched a line of single-serving cups of coffee for sale at grocery stores.

Most of the PJ’s outlets are in Louisiana, concentrated around New Orleans but including Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and other spots.
