Metro began a major overhaul of a 900-foot stretch of track between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road/Minnesota Avenue last night, forcing complete closure of the section through Sunday night, officials said.
The $210,000 project, one of the largest track replacement efforts this year, will cause roughly 30-minute delays on the eastern side of Stadium-Armory. Metro is operating a free shuttle bus every five minutes between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road, and between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue.
The work is expected to be completed by 5 a.m., officials said. Blue Line trains will operate in two sections: between Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory; and between Largo Town Center and Benning Road. Orange Line trains will operate in two sections: between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and Stadium-Armory; and between New Carrollton and Minnesota Avenue.
During the weekend, all Blue and Orange Line trains will operate every 12 to 15 minutes from the end of each rail line. There are no home games for the Washington Nationals this weekend, but D.C. United fans could have some delays for tonight’s game at RFK Stadium.
