Author Mary Kay Ricks, a Montgomery County resident, will discuss and sign her most–recent book, “Escape of the Pearl: The Bid for Freedom on the Underground Railroad,” at the Silver Spring Library on April 17.
Ricks’ book chronicles the inside workings of the Underground Railroad and the African-American community in the Washington and Maryland area.
Ricks formerly worked as a Department of Labor attorney and has written about D.C. history for several publications.
