Islamic State second-in-command killed: Iraqi state TV

The Islamic State’s second-in-command, Ayad al-Jumaili, was killed on Saturday, Iraq State TV reported, citing military intelligence officials.

Al-Jumaili is believed to be the top deputy to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

State TV announced Jumaili’s death in an onscreen news flash, but gave no further details on how he was killed, according to Reuters.

His death followed reports of Iraqi airstrikes killing nearly 200 Islamic State fighters outside of the city of Mosul on Saturday. An Iraqi official government statement did not mention al-Jumaili’s death as a result of those raids.
