Strattner, of the District, was recently designated as the 10 millionth fan to attend a Washington Nationals home game. He says he attends about 75 Nats games a year.
You were selected during the Nationals-Red Sox series. There appeared to be more Sox fans in the stands.
I travel to see the team, so I appreciate when others travel to see their team.
How were you chosen?
I’m not sure. I’m sure the fact that I had a Nationals T-shirt on that night and not a Red Sox jersey helped. They did come to my seat about 20 minutes before the game and said I had won a prize, and it would awarded during the second inning. Right before the second inning, the person came back and said they had to get a release form, and on the release form it said 10 millionth fan. He asked how did it feel to be the 10 millionth. It’s hard to believe that the team has been around long enough to have had 10 million fans.
What did you win?
I got a very nice Ryan Zimmerman autographed game jersey and two tickets to the Elton John/Billy Joel concert. And I’m supposed to get a Washington Nationals chair that will have a plaque on it with my name. And I will get four tickets for an upcoming game. And I get four tickets to be on the field for batting practice for an upcoming game. And I got a few T-shirts. I’m especially looking forward to the chair.
What do you do, outside of being a Nationals fan?
I work for the Library of Congress, in the law library. I’m the chief of collection services there.
Manny Acta was fired Monday. Your thoughts?
Certainly he cannot be blamed for everything, but I do think some change had to happen. [For the rest of the season], I do think we’ll find out a lot of needed information as to players for next year, who to keep.
