Nick Cannon stepping away from radio show after apologizing for anti-Semitic comments

Entertainer Nick Cannon revealed he will be taking time away from his radio show after he apologized for making anti-Semitic comments.

Cannon, 39, announced on Thursday that he would be taking a break from hosting his Los Angeles-based radio show Nick Cannon Mornings. The entertainer was fired from his role at ViacomCBS but will remain at Fox, where he hosts the show The Masked Singer.

“Morning radio family. I have decided to take some time away from my radio show so I can commit myself to deeper, more thorough reflection and education,” he said on social media. “I will use this time to establish an action plan towards real, impactful change and advocacy aimed at bringing people together,” Cannon added in subsequent tweets. “I continue to express my gratitude to the Rabbis, community leaders and institutions who have reached out to me to help enlighten me.”

The controversial remarks came during an episode of his YouTube talk show Cannon’s Class, which featured Richard Griffin, also known as Professor Griff from the Public Enemy rap group, and was posted on his channel days ago.

Cannon claimed that he couldn’t be anti-Semitic because the real Semites are black and also brought up the Rothschilds, which “is a trigger for the most explosive of anti-Semitic tremors,” according to the Anti-Defamation League. The conversation later turned to conspiracy theories about Jewish people controlling money and the banking system globally, a theory which the ADL says, “Has surfaced across the extremist spectrum.”

He was defiant after the initial backlash and subsequent firing from ViacomCBS but has since apologized on multiple occasions.
