On Saturday, ABC’s Jake Tapper looked into reports that the reason John McCain can’t email–a matter mocked in a recent Obama ad–is because of McCain’s war injuries. Tapper reported that in fact McCain “can type, he occasionally does type, but in general the injuries he sustained as a POW — ones that make it impossible for him to raise his arms high enough to comb his hair — mean that small tasks make his shoulders ache, so he tries to avoid any repetitive exercise.” You’d think the Obama campaign would promptly pull the ad and issue an apology. But the ad is still featured on Obama’s website, and his spokesman actually had the audacity to say on FOX News this morning that McCain ought to learn how to email:
Why the Obama campaign thinks this is such an effective ad it’s worth mocking McCain’s war injuries is beyond me. McCain relies on his wife and his staff to type emails for him. And the ability to email is irrelevant because presidents don’t send emails for security reasons, as Jaime Sneider reported in THE WEEKLY STANDARD. So which demographic is Obama trying to win over with this ad, anyway? Snickering twentysomethings? Doesn’t Obama already have their support? Hat tip: Ben Smith
