Republican lawmakers who vote against the American Health Care Act could “pay a price” in their home districts, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday.
“It’s a political reality” rather than a threat from President Trump, Spicer claimed.
“To go and make a promise and a pledge of this magnitude and not to follow it through, I’m sure that voters would be upset,” Spicer said.
But Spicer also suggested consequences and benefits could accrue to lawmakers depending on their vote, saying, “We’re going to remember those who stood by us.”
In a closed-door meeting with the House GOP conference earlier Tuesday, Trump suggested members who voted against the Obamacare reform legislation could lose their seats in 2018.
