‘I feel fantastic’: Arnold Schwarzenegger says heart surgery went well

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he feels “fantastic” after undergoing heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

Schwarzenegger posted photos from his time in Ohio, which is where the well-known clinic is located, to social media on Friday. The 73-year-old actor also shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed giving a thumbs-up.

“Thanks to the team at the Cleveland Clinic, I have a new aortic valve to go along with my new pulmonary valve from my last surgery,” the Terminator star said in reference to an open-heart surgery he had back in 2018.

“I feel fantastic and have already been walking the streets of Cleveland enjoying your amazing statues. Thank you to every doc and nurse on my team!” Schwarzenegger added.

The aortic valve is crucial to the proper function of a person’s heart. According to the American Heart Association, it allows blood to exit the heart from the left ventricle and “prevents the backflow of blood from the aorta to the left ventricle.”

The former governor has a congenital heart defect, and prior to his 2018 surgery, he also underwent a pulmonary valve replacement in 1997.
