Clinton to campaign with Tim Kaine amid VP talk

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign announced Thursday that she will be campaigning with Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine next week as speculation swirls around him as her potential vice presidential selection.

According to a press release, Clinton and Kaine will appear at a Democratic Party of Virginia event next Thursday in Northern Virginia. No more immediate details were available for the event.

Kaine, a first-term senator and a former governor, is thought to be one of the leading contenders to become Clinton’s running mate. Last week, Clinton campaigned with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who is also thought to be on the short list for the spot.

While Kaine could check many boxes for Clinton and help in Virginia, a swing state, he is not a top choice of the progressive Left, particularly among those who supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign.

Unlike Warren and Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, Kaine is seen as a more moderate possibility, something that also cropped up in 2008 when Barack Obama was undergoing his search for a running mate.

Kaine has been a consistent supporter of Clinton this cycle, having endorsed her in May of 2014, nearly a year before Clinton even launched her bid.
