Biden approval rating plunges to another low in poll

President Joe Biden‘s gloomy approval ratings have reached another low.

A mere 31% of U.S. adults have a favorable outlook of his presidency, overshadowed by the 60% who disapprove of it, according to a recent Quinnipiac University poll. The figure marks the lowest score for the Biden presidency in the national survey and comes months ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

Top of mind for disgruntled voters appears to be the economy. Biden earned his 28% approval rating for his management of the economy.

Some 34% of voters pointed to inflation as the No.1 dilemma plaguing the United States. Gun violence came in second at 12%, and no other issue surpassed double digits.

The poll surveyed 1,523 U.S. adults between July 14-18 with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points. Among the 1,367 registered voters surveyed in the poll, the outlook is only slightly rosier, with 33% disapproving of his performance compared to 59% with a favorable view.

With the recent Quinnipiac poll added to the mix, the RealClearPolitics polling aggregate for Biden’s approval is now at 37.1% — an all-time low. For comparison, former President Donald Trump’s lowest approval rating on the RealClearPolitics aggregate was 37%.

Republicans have been pummeling Biden for rising inflation, the pinch of stubbornly high prices at the pump, and elevated levels of crime. Some have also raised concerns about his age. Even Democrats such as former President Barack Obama’s ex-chief political strategist David Axelrod have voiced unease about Biden’s age. At 79, he is the oldest person to command the country.

As the president’s approval among voters continues to crater, a growing number of Democratic voters appear to be deserting him. Approximately 41% of Democrats would prefer that another candidate be the party’s standard-bearer in 2024, eclipsing the 35% who want a second Biden term, a Yahoo News/YouGov poll found last week.

An eye-popping 18% of general election voters want Biden to pursue reelection, according to the poll, which surveyed 1,672 adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points. Biden has been adamant he will pursue reelection in 2024, and the White House has shrugged off concerns about his low approval rating and age.
