Settlement in hormone scam

Anyone who bought “YMotion Yam Cream” sold as an alternative to hormone therapy is entitled to their money back, according to a settlement reached between two Las Vegas companies and 17 attorneys general led by Maryland Attorney General Joseph Curran.

“This company and its owner were trying to scare consumers into abandoning the use of FDA-approved drugs prescribed by a health practitioner,” Curran said. “Companies that sell health products must be required to advertise their products honestly so that consumers can make informed decisions.”

Gateway Distributors Ltd. and The Right Solution Gateway agreed to stop selling YMotion, an untested progesterone cream, or any other drug products not approved by the FDA. They also agreed to return by Dec. 11 all payments received from customers who fill out a complaint.

The companies mailed advertisements to Maryland residents labeled as a “Medical Recall Notice,” Curran?s spokesman Kevin Enright said. The mailers claimed prescription estrogen and progesterone products were recalled for causing breast, cervical and endometrial cancers. They also advised readers to use YMotion as a replacement.

No such recall exists.

The companies also claimed YMotion was clinically proven to be safe and effective, when no studies have been conducted on them.
