Student struck in Adams Morgan dies

The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies student who was struck by a car that drove up on a sidewalk in Adams Morgan last week has died.

Julia Bachleitner, a native of Austria, died Tuesday afternoon, according to D.C. police. She was 26. School officials said she was with family members and her boyfriend when she died.

Bachleitner and another pedestrian were waiting on a traffic island Wednesday night when a car heading south on 18th Street struck them as it tried to turn onto U Street and crashed into a restaurant.

The driver of the car that hit Bachleitner has been charged with aggravated assault and driving under the influence.
