One of the lawyers who worked on President Trump’s defense team during the impeachment trial acknowledged that the president shouldn’t have trusted his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani to conduct foreign policy.
Giuliani traveled to Ukraine in order to dig up evidence of alleged wrongdoing by former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter while also engaging in a campaign dedicated to tarnishing former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch as anti-Trump.
Robert Ray appeared on the radio program of ABC News’ chief legal analyst Dan Abrams Friday and defended the president’s phone call while admitting that Giuliani’s role was a mistake, according to Mediaite.
Ray acknowledged that some people will view the president’s call as not being “perfect” despite his claims, but added that it argued that it didn’t meet the threshold worthy of removal from office.
“It’s not just the call,” Abrams noted. “It’s putting Giuliani in charge of foreign policy.”
“And in that context, what I did say is that that constituted an error in judgment, OK? For all the reasons that we talked about. Traveling outside of proper channels has consequence,” Ray responded.
Earlier this week, Giuliani announced that he’s planning on “ramping up” the investigations on the Bidens despite it playing a major role in the president’s impeachment in the House of Representatives.
