String of Fairfax bank robberies could be linked
Fairfax County police are investigating two attempted bank robberies and one successful bank robbery that took place within an hour and half of each other in Fairfax on Saturday.
Police said it’s likely all three incidents were committed by the same persons.
During the first attempted robbery, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, a woman entered the Sun Trust Bank at 5922 Richmond Highway and attempted to rob the teller, but left after the teller questioned her, police said. During the second incident, a man and woman entered the Wells Fargo Bank at 6300 Richmond Highway, implied to tellers that they were carrying a weapon. The two asked for money, but left without any for unknown reasons, police said.
Finally, at 12:22 p.m., a man entered the BB&T bank at 6618 Richmond Highway and also implied he was carrying a weapon, police said. The teller gave him cash — police couldn’t say how much — and then fled.
No one was hurt during the robberies, police said.
