Elias Abuelazam, the man whom Michigan court records identify as the suspect in a series of stabbing attacks, was arrested in an Arlington traffic stop last week.
Det. Crystal Nosal, an Arlington County police spokeswoman, said Abuelazam was pulled over for a traffic stop at 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 5.
She said officers learned he was wanted on a simple assault warrant in Leesburg. Nosal said she believed the warrant was about two years old and unrelated to the three recent stabbings there.
Abuelazam, who is a former Leesburg resident, according to property records, was released without having to post bond.
He was apprehended late Wednesday in connection with the stabbings that have killed five and wounded 15 in Leesburg, Michigan and Ohio.
