The Virginia Railway Express commuter train service plans to resume running trains on its Fredericksburg line Monday, after having to cancel all service on that line on Friday following a CSX derailment.
The commuter line had a messy Thursday evening commute after the CSX coal train derailed near Quantico, tipping over five cars and ripping up the tracks. Riders had long waits for shuttle buses — sometimes in the rain.
Then all Friday trains were canceled.
But the commuter service said CSX will be working through the weekend to repair the tracks. VRE hopes to operate its normal schedule, though possible speed restrictions between the Brooke and Quantico stops might cause some delays.
Amtrak service on affected lines in the area is expected to return to normal on Saturday.
