Let’s face it — with the recent and planned development in Southwest, this isn’t your grandfather’s Navy Yard anymore.
The Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District wants the name of the Navy Yard Metro Station to reflect that. The group is requesting the name be changed to some version of “Capitol Riverfront/Ballpark/Navy Yard.”
According to one account of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission that heard the proposal, the commission was on board, but only if “Capitol Riverfront” was not the first part of the new name.
Any change in the station name still needs to go through the Department of Transportation and Metrorail for approval.
