STORYLINE:
The Japanese Self Defence Forces held a military drill at the foot of Mount Fuji on Tuesday, showcasing the ability of their armed forces to defend remote islands.
Some 2,300 soldiers, 80 tanks and armoured vehicles, 60 artillery units, 20 aircraft and 600 other military vehicles took part in the live-fire exercise, the largest event put on by the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Forces every year.
