Sebastian Gorka on travel ban: Trump ‘can call it whatever he likes’

White House national security aide Sebastian Gorka argued Monday that President Trump can call his immigration executive order a “travel ban” if he likes.

“The president can call it whatever he likes ’cause he has the constitutional authority to control whoever comes into this country,” Gorka said on CNN.

“That’s his job. The Constitution, tradition, precedent and administrative law give him that right,” Gorka added.

The second version of Trump’s executive order on immigration was blocked by a federal judge in Hawaii, who reasoned that it was unconstitutional because Trump talked during the campaign about banning Muslims from entering the U.S.

Trump’s Justice Department disagreed and appealed, but lost that appeal, and has said it would ask the Supreme Court to rule.

Gorka on Monday seemed to imply that the words Trump uses to describe his executive order won’t matter.

“If he wants to call it a ban, he’s the president, he’s the chief officer of this administration, and he has every right to do that.”
