CLEVELAND — Michael Barone attended his first political convention in 1968, the Democratic convention in Chicago.
In an interview with “Examining Politics,” the Washington Examiner podcast, Barone talked about the 23 Democratic and Republican conventions that he has attended “in some way, shape or form” and what that suggests about the GOP convention this week in Cleveland next week’s Democratic convention in Philadelphia.
The Republican convention in Cleveland this week nominated Donald Trump for president and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence for vice president.
“The Cleveland convention, the Trump operation did squash the move to have a roll call vote on the rules,” said Barone, the Examiner’s chief political analyst. “They didn’t want the TV footage, apparently, of people making anti-Trump statements.”
