House Speaker Michael Busch on Tuesday appointed 14 delegates to review the state’s medevac system after a crash killed four people in September.
Busch, D-Anne Arundel, said he decided to create the workgroup to prepare recommendations that could result in legislation.
Gov. Martin O’Malley wants to replace the medevac fleet with new helicopters, and has included $40 million for two helicopters in the budget he made public last week.
“This is really about preparing, getting the best information to make the best decisions that we can make,” he said.
The group has been formed to best organize a legislative effort to make any changes to the system, said Del. John Bohanan, D-St. Mary’s, who is the group’s chairman.
The group, which has been asked to report back with recommendations by March, also will consider the role of commercial carriers and the helicopter procurement process.
