Ruth Madoff is in the news again. Reuters reports: “The wife of accused Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff pulled $15 million out of a brokerage account only days before her husband was arrested, Massachusetts’ top securities regulator said on Wednesday.” Earlier, the New York Times reported that food and wine expert Karen MacNeil, who edited a 1996 cookbook entitled The Great Chefs of America Cook Kosher: Over 175 Recipes From America’s Greatest Restaurants, now admits she pretty much wrote the entire book herself and not the authors, one of which was Ruth Madoff. According to MacNeil: “My understanding was that [Ruth Madoff] entertained a lot in New York and kind of wanted to test some recipes just as a social thing to do with friends. But in point of fact, I wrote the entire book.” MacNeil doubts she “ever cooked any of the recipes.” The Times (citing the Daily Mail) also reminds us how Mr. Madoff was “quite fond of pork sausages.” Perhaps his wife’s next book on kosher cooking will include bacon cheeseburgers and lobster rolls.
